I’m Denese; also known as Lacy’s wife, mommy, mom, daughter, sister and friend.
I have traveled quite a bit and lived in many different places in the United States, among them New Mexico, Florida and Alabama. I’ve also been to California and Panama (when I was little) and spent some time in New York City and Long Island (that was different!). After arriving in Tennessee in 1988, I felt like I came home -and here I stayed.
Currently, I live in a holler near Townsend, TN and the Great Smoky Mountains where I keep my home, help my husband and teach our children -I have been a full time homemaker and home educator since 1997. My husband, Lacy, is an ol’ hillbilly, mountain man, old-time carpenter whose family has been here for generations. We are older parents and have been blessed with two lovely children who are the joy of our lives -two that both of us thought we’d never have. We live very simply (except for the computer!) and try to make do with what we have, and be thankful for it.
I grow herbs, flowers, wildflowers and vegetables; raise chickens; dabble in photography, drawing, and web design/coding; go hiking with my children; and do wildcrafting, crochet and other crafts. I love to sing, play the piano/keyboard (a little) and am trying to teach myself how to play the guitar. I’m an avid reader, a lifelong learner and a BIG list-maker. Most of the time I have too many irons in the fire!
Above all, I am a believer in our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ -without him we are lost! I’m a prodigal daughter -I was raised in the Church and baptized at age 12…but it felt so fake. I went into rebellion when I was 13-14 and did many terrible things for many years -it’s a wonder that I’m still alive. The world does not have the answers. The Lord started drawing me back to him in 1996. After I married Lacy, had children and moved to our holler, I fell into depression. I wasn’t doing terrible things anymore but despite everything I now had -a good husband, children, my own home in the place of my dreams -I had no peace or happiness. Something was still missing. I finally turned to God, repented of all the bad I had done and believed in Jesus. He has totally changed me and saved my life! I’m not claiming to be an expert on the Bible or on being a Christian; I was lost for many years and I still stumble sometimes, but I do believe and He’s still working on me. Thank God for his mercy, grace and forgiveness! If you are not a Christian, please turn to God, turn away from and confess your sins, ask for forgiveness and believe in his son Jesus -he died for us all and time is growing short. To learn about Jesus, read the Bible -Mathew, Mark, Luke and John in the New Testament are a good place to start. If you don’t have a Bible, you can find one in your local library or read it online at BlueLetterBible.org.
