Great Smoky Mountains Road Closures and Weather Update
Roads
Rich Mountain Road and Foothills Parkway West, which were closed due to downed trees, have re-opened.

The sun is supposed to return tomorrow and last through Saturday, temperatures in the 50s-70s…sounds like it will be a beautiful weekend to visit the Smokies!

Road Closures
We had some severe weather with extremely high winds yesterday and the following roads in the Great Smoky Mountains National Park are closed this morning due to downed trees.
- Foothills Parkway West from the Look Rock gate to Highway 129 (in Blount County)
- Rich Mountain Road

Weather Forecast
The weather forecast calls for breezy conditions and rain today, with a slight chance through tomorrow night. Temperatures are supposed to be in the 50s-60s during the day and 30s-40s at night.

Great Smoky Mountains Travel Update: U.S. 441 Re-opened
U.S 441 from Tennessee to Cherokee, North Carolina is open to all traffic today, do watch for patches of ice and snow.
The following roads are still closed this morning:
- Old NC 284 between Big Creek and Cataloochee
- Clingmans Dome Road
Today’s forecast calls for sunny skies and highs in the 50s-60s, so those two roads may re-open by this afternoon.

Winter Storm Warning
A Winter Storm Warning is in effect for the Smoky Mountains until 4am Wednesday, April 8. Accumulations of 3-6 inches are possible, more in the higher elevations.
Blount Smoky Mountains Winter Storm Warning
It has been snowing all afternoon here, just outside of the Park, and we have a dusting so far.

Heads up for you Smoky Mountain visitors and vacationers:
An 18-monthlong project to repave 6.5 miles of Great Smoky Mountains National Park’s Newfound Gap Road (U.S. 441) is set to begin Monday. Completion of the work is not expected until Sept. 1, 2010.
Repaving work to begin on Newfound Gap Road
