Smoky Mountains Road Closures Update

The major roads through the Great Smoky Mountains have re-opened including 441, Little River, Laurel Road, Cades Cove Loop and Cosby Road. Please use caution and watch for ice, especially on 441.
Roads that are still closed:
- Foothills Parkway East
- Old NC-284 between Big Creek and Cataloochee
- Cherokee Orchard Road above Twin Creeks Science Center
- Cataloochee Entrance Road
- Greenbrier Road past the Ranger Station
For updated road conditions in the Park, call (865) 436-1200 and press 2.

The snow has not melted much as you can see, even the trees are still covered and it’s supposed to be cold and sunny tomorrow so the snow will hang around a few days. With the major roads open, this is great time to see the Smokies in the snow.

Have a lovely day,
Denese

Foothills Parkway Construction Pictures

The Foothills Parkway is an unfinished National Parkway that was started in the 1940’s, when completed it will offer unobstructed views of the Great Smoky Mountains National Park. Currently, construction is being done on a section up and beyond the Pawpaw Holler and we hiked up there Sunday. If you’d like to see some pictures of the progress on the Parkway and views of the Smokies from up there, I’ve added a gallery to my Townsend/Great Smoky Mountains page.
Enjoy,Denese

Salmonella Outbreak
Have you or anyone you know had the stomach flu lately? It might not be the flu!
A couple weeks ago, my 7 year old son, Daniel, came down with what we thought was a stomach virus, two days after a family get-together. He had stomach cramps, fever and the runs.
It took him a week to get over it!
Last night I found out there has been a Salmonella outbreak in 42 states, since October!
Salmonella outbreak spreads to 42 states, CDC says
The symptoms are exactly what Daniel had.
I thought I’d pass this on in case you’re like us and haven’t heard about it from your local news.
