The Mayapples (Podophyllum peltatum) are up and starting to bloom…

-only Mayapples with two leaves will have a flower

Looking For Mayapples

“I don’t see any apples!”

Mayapple tidbits:

  • All parts of the plant, except the fruit, are poisonous
  • Mayapple fruit was traditionally used to make jelly
  • Supposedly, Morel mushrooms can be found near Mayapple patches (but I’ve never found any)

Spring In The Mountains

Wednesday, April 7th, 2010

It’s spring in the Smokies and the redbuds and dogwoods are all abloom…

Let the heavens be glad, and let the earth rejoice: and let men say among the nations, The LORD reigneth.

Let the sea roar, and the fulness thereof: let the fields rejoice, and all that is therein.

Then shall the trees of the wood sing out at the presence of the LORD, because he cometh to judge the earth.

1 Chronicles 16:31-33

Blessings,

Denese
