Brrrrrrrr

Saturday, January 17th, 2009

In case anyone is wondering what happened to me yesterday, it was too cold!

Our little ol’ cabin is drafty and the floors get really cold, especially where I have the computer. Yesterday morning started out at 5 degrees and warmed up to 20, which would’ve been fine, except for the wind…it found every crack in the house!

Our cabin

Our little cabin (under re-construction)

So, we sat by the stove and read books and watched old westerns yesterday. :)

Today started out a little warmer…11 degrees.

As cold as it is here, though, I know it’s a lot colder and snowy up North and I really feel for all of you up there. Hope it warms up for you all soon.

Well, my feet are freezing again, so I’m off to sit by the stove for a while. Later on, when it warms up some, I’ll post them some free e-books I found.

Stay warm,

Denese

Free Public Library Services

Thursday, January 15th, 2009

Brrrrr, another cold morning… a hot chocolate morning!

Do you use your public library?

Blount County TN library

Do you know about all the services that public libraries offer, most of them free?

Some things we can do at our local library:

  • Borrow: books, magazines, audio books, CDs, videos, DVDs, computer games and software.
  • Renew materials online.
  • Search books online from home.
  • Checkout e-books.
  • Use the internet for free.
  • Attend free children’s programs; preschool, spanish preschool, after-school, summer reading, and chess club are just a few.
  • Join a book club.
  • Attend a free concert.
  • Attend a book signing.
  • Take a free computer class.
  • Learn about beekeeping.
  • Research family and local history, libraries have great genealogy departments.
  • See an art exhibit.
  • Enter book contests.
  • Purchase used books during book sales, some as low as 25 cents.
  • Use inter-library loan. If we can’t find a book we need and  don’t need to buy it, we can check it out from another library in our state for the cost of return postage, usually $1.50-$2.00 a book.
  • Read a book!

Go check out your own local library, you might be surprised at what they offer. :)

Wednesday, January 14th, 2009

Another sunny morning, but it sure is cold! It’s supposed to get colder and snowy starting tonight, so we are making today our library day…for both of them!

It wasn’t easy, but I found a couple pictures of my husband. If you want to take a look-see, they’re on my Family Album page. I’d like to set it up a little differently but it will do for now.

I can cross one thing off my list!

Agenda For The Rest Of The Week

Tuesday, January 13th, 2009

It’s a beautiful morning here in the Pawpaw Holler, they’re hollerin’ for snow but the sun is out and the clouds are almost gone!

I’m still moving links off my old blog and trying to get back to regular posting.  It has calmed down around here and we’re getting back on schedule, so maybe I can get caught up. :)

Some things I have planned to do this week:

Online

1. Upload a picture of my husband, Lacy (if I can find one that won’t scare everyone…he is an ol’ mountain man you know).

2. Add a calendar for Townsend TN and Great Smoky Mountains free events and activities.

3. Make a photo gallery page for our nature pictures.

4. Move more free resources links, all of the Old Hermit’s sayings and my recipes off my old blog.

5. Re-do my pages.

6. Post some free resources everyday.

I’ll have some freebies for you all later.

Blessings,

Denese

Mount Rushmore Free Resources and Links

Monday, January 12th, 2009

Good mornin’ all!

We had a busy weekend up here in the holler: repairing flood damage to our roads, Association business, house cleaning, and computer cleaning.

We also had a mini-lesson on Mount Rushmore. We used our good old encyclopedia to start out our lesson and incorporated math and geography into it by; mapping the distance from our house to Mount Rushmore, figuring the best route and what states we would pass through.

Here are some free online resources and links about Mount Rushmore:

Free E-mail Password Recovery Software

Friday, January 9th, 2009

Good morning everyone!

Have you forgotten your e-mail password?

Last night I was switching an e-mail account from Outlook Express to Mozilla Thunderbird. I don’t use this account very much and I had forgotten my password, couldn’t find it anywhere. What to do?

Google!

I found a great little freeware program that installed in minutes and immediately brought up every e-mail account I have, along with the passwords.

Mail PassView

According to the website, this program will recover e-mail passwords for the following e-mail clients, with some restrictions:

  • Outlook Express
  • Microsoft Outlook
  • Windows Mail
  • Incredimail
  • Eudora
  • Netscape
  • Mozilla Thunderbird
  • Group Mail Free
  • Yahoo Mail
  • Hotmail/MSN Mail
  • Gmail

Mail Pass View worked great for me, although I may not use it again now that I have my password. :)

For more information and to download this program, visit the website.

Have a great day,

Denese
